Activity Guide for groups
Guided tour of the ASTROLab, by day
Attend the Cosmic Rhythms, a high-definition show which will bring you to the outermost bounds
of the Universe, in the multimedia hall. The public is thrilled by its high quality and originality.
Visit the exhibit room From the Naked Eye to the Invisible Spectrum. This exhibit traces the
history of sky observation, from constellations to the invention of the telescope to gamma rays.
Finally, visit the Cosmolab-Velan: Birth and History of the Cosmos. This exhibit is a unique
presentation of cosmology. Find out about the theories which intend to describe the origin
of the Universe, like the Big Bang, or the Big Crunch.
Guided tour of the observatories, by day
Visit in three parts :
Guided tour of the Mont-Mégantic Observatory. 1.6 m telescope, the most powerful in North
East of America. Explanations on how it functions and introduction to researches made.
Multimedia presentation at the Mont-Mégantic Popular Observatory showing the different
observatories around the world. 61 cm-wide telescope.
Finally, interpretation of the landscape, effect of the mountain on the climate, and geological
formation of the mount Mégantic.
Evening of astronomy at the ASTROLab
At the base of the mountain, at the ASTROLab, the evening begins in our high-definitionmultimedia
room with the animated presentation Tonight in the Cosmos. If the stars prevail, the
evening will continue outside and in the Velan Observatory (36 cm) with naked eye and
telescope observation.
If the clouds prevail, you will be a part of our interactive presentation where you will discover the
most beautiful space landscapes on a giant screen and you will get to choose the destinations
and ask any question about the Universe. No matter what the weather has in store, we will have
you see stars!
Evening of astronomy at the Popular Observatory
On the mountain top, the evening begins with an unforgettable view of the sunset at an altitude
of 1100 m, behind the largest observatory in the North East of America (if wheather
permits). The evening will then continue in the Popular Observatory with a commentated
presentation on the challenges of observing the sky with telescopes.
If the stars prevail, you may look through the 61 cm telescope and enjoy our outstanding outdoor
observation platform with reclining benches — a breathtaking scene.
If the clouds prevail, our multimedia observatory will provide an unforgettable interactive virtual
sky observation. Prepare your questions!
