Bicknell's Thrush

Bicknell's Thrush
The Bicknell's thrush is named after Eugene Bicknell, who first discovered this bird in the early 1880s. In May 1999, at the provincial level, it has been on the list of species likely to be designated vulnerable, while at the federal level it is considered a species of special concern.
The Bicknell's thrush is generally found in high mountain evergreens. At Parc National du Mont-Mégantic,it can be found on the summits above the 950-metre line. The bird adapts well to chilly climates characterized by strong winds and high humidity. They return from the Greater Antilles at the end of May and nest in June.
Little is known about the Bicknell's thrush's biology since it is a very difficult bird to observe due to its extremely cautious nature (it takes flight at the slightest movement) and its traditionally very dense and not easily accessible habitat.
A study conducted on the Bicknell's thrush at Parc National du Mont-Mégantic in 1997- 1998 determined, among other aspects, that there were approximately 500 males living on the mountain.
